FC Cincinnati new signing Chidozie Awaziem has a few surprises in his Super Eagles best XI after he chose Francis Uzoho in goal ahead of current No 1 Stanley Nwabali.

Uzoho lost the No 1 spot to Nwabali at the 2023 AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire earlier this year and he was even completely shut in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin in June.
Awaziem’s Super Eagles selection is from those he has played with in the national team.
He has picked former captain Mikel Obi as well as Victor Moses, who prematurely quit international football after the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
He also has close friends Kenneth Omeruo partnering in the heart of the back four as well as Kelechi Iheanacho playing on the left side of attack.
He revealed that of all the Super Eagles, he is “most connected” with his usual roommate Iheanacho.
Awaziem recalled he was shocked when he was first called up by the Super Eagles.
“I never expected it, when I was playing in Porto, I never knew Nigeria were watching me, after the game, I had my club telling me that the Super Eagles contacted them,” he said in an interview.
“I was shocked, at some point I was so happy I couldn’t sleep because i was going to represent my country.”
