Coach Finidi George has asked his Super Eagles to put up a fantastic display at the start of tomorrow’s must-win 2026 World Cup qualifier, just as they delivered in the second half against South Africa Friday night in Uyo, so as to beat hosts Benin.
Nigeria are under immense pressure to finally get going in the World Cup qualifying campaign after they drew their first three matches including two played at home.
“We hope to start well, like the fantastic second we played against South Africa,” Finidi said.
“Benin won their last game (vs Rwanda) and their sprit will be high.
“They want to win, we also want to win.
“We will do our best to make sure we win.”
He further added: “The game against South Africa is now in the past. We have learnt from that.
“The players know what is at stake and they will do the job.”
Captain Wilfred Ndidi said the Super Eagles are committed to qualifying for the 2026 World Cup despite a difficult start to their campaign.
“We want to win tomorrow because we want to go to the World Cup and we showed this in the second half against South Africa,” he declared.
“We’re in high spirits.
“We’re ready.”
Kick-off tomorrow at the Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan is 5pm in Nigeria.
