Super Eagles coach Finidi George has maintained the team cannot play the defensive football that got them to the final of the AFCON in February because of the huge attacking talent they have.
Despite the Super Eagles having the most dreaded firepower at the last AFCON in Cote d”Ivoire, they were made to play defensive football much to the dismay of numerous fans and supporters across the globe.
Jose Peseiro reverted to 3-4-3 after his first game in Cote d’Ivoire, which meant the Super Eagles could track back and defend well, with attackers having to join in the defensive duties.
“With the calibre of players that we have, we cannot play that defensive,” insisted Finidi during his media tour.
“In football you must get that balance, when you attack, when you defend, if the players are aware of what you’re doing and you attack properly and you know when to defend.
“We struggled going forward as well, so we just have to get that balance right. Maybe the formation has to change whereby we take away a player at the back and put him in the midfield.
“We played 3-4-3 in the last AFCON and maybe it’s time we get back to 4-3-3, where we make use of our wingers and properly”.
