As the build-up to the Super Eagles vs South Africa World Cup qualifier gathers steam, Hugo Broos has again given a strong hint he could still dump Bafana Bafana for a top Belgian club.
Broos has not exactly been the favourite of the South African media even after he led the country to finish third at the AFCON in February.
The 71-year-old Belgian coach has now been linked with the post of technical director at Club Brugge following the dismissal of sports director Vincent Mannaert.
Broos has often said that South Africa would be his last job, but he has not hidden the fact that he would still like a position as technical director at Club Brugge.
“I am a candidate and I know what the club would expect from me,” Broos told the Walloon newspaper La Capitale.
“It would be more of an advisory role. My vote would not be decisive, but my experience would be useful, especially when it comes to choosing a player or a coach’s relationship with his team and management.”
The latter in particular seems desperately needed at Club Brugge.
“I think Brugge have been lacking that lately since the departure of Vincent Mannaert, especially in the management of the Ronny Deila case. I don’t know much else about the rest. The new organizational chart will undoubtedly be known after the play-offs,” Broos further explained.
