Hosts Ghana today sent a serious warning to the Golden Eaglets and the other teams at the WAFU B U17 AFCON with an emphatic 5-1 win over Cote d’Ivoire in the opening game.
Joseph Narbi fired a first-half brace to make a big statement that unlike two years ago when they failed to make an impact in the sub-regional qualifying tournament, the Black Starlets will have to be taken seriously this time.
Godfred Sarpong, Harve Gbafa and Mark Kagawa Mensah then scored after the break to give the Ghanaians a deserved opening day victory.
This was the team’s 11th win in 15 matches under coach and former Black Stars hero Laryea Kingston.
They have drawn three and lost only once since they were assembled in March 2023.
The Golden Eaglets will begin their title defence tomorrow against Burkina Faso in a Group B opening game.
