SCORENigeria can reveal that Domenec Torrent, the long-term right hand man of Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, was set to be announced as the new Super Eagles coach.
However, talks between the highly-rated Spanish coach and the NFF broke down over his salary demand.
A source told SCORENigeria: “Yes, it is very true that Torrent was close to getting the job (as Super Eagles coach).”
However, this source will not comment on why the deal fell through.
Further checks by SCORENigeria showed that the expections of the coach were far in excess of what the NFF offered.
It is now increasingly likely that the NFF will have to settle for a local coach to lead the Super Eagles.

To Spend Naira To Save The Naira+Reviving Super Eagles, NFF could get Air Peace, Innoson Motors, Dangote, Globacom, First Bank to pay Domenec Torrent as Head Coach with option to come with his 2 assistants, Amunike as Assistant1, Vincent Enyeama as Goalkeeper trainer. Then agree to a monthly salary of naira equivalent of $50,000+win bonus for the whole technical crew
What is really going on, is NFF planning to take Nigeria to a higher level or bring it down to abys? What exactly is there problem? The state our super eagles is now is beyond any of the two local coaches struggling to become coach of the super eagles. Check their antecedents or records in the past, they are nothing to write home about. Why do they want to result to corruption method now by the use of long leg, or who you know perlance. It is too bag. It has become a do or die matter. Hah! Amuneke, show us your performance in Kenya. NFF should watch this their game they are playing against the only thing that Nigerians don’t play with-Football. Nigerians have died because of poor performance of our team sometimes. Please and please, NFF go and play your game elsewhere, not with appointing a good coach for the Super eagles.
Few days ago, i wrote on a platform of completesports i suggested that Domenec Torrent should be given the chance to coach super eagles. Right now what we need for super eagles is a coach who will be able to manage and bring out the best from these team technically and tactically. Nff money shouldn’t be the issue avoid pass mistakes.
How does African nations that are far poorer than Nigeria pay foreign Coaches?
These Countries hire the best of Coaches and they don’t default in paying such high calibre Coaches their salaries as at when due.
CORRUPTION will not allow us do what is right.
We need a top grade Coach to bring out the best in our Players.
A Local Coach won’t be able to do the job.
I have asked this question severally as well without any answer. They are able to appoint and pay their coaches without any drama. The opposite is the case here.
As long as the demon of corruption still has its grip on the entire fabric of Nigeria life, we’ll continue to falter where we ought to excell magnificently given our abundant human and material resources.
Impossible! Amuneke is more accomplished than Finidi!
Foreign coach please, NFF find the money.
Amuneke ni o Finidi ni o, none of them is good enough and they go seek employment somewhere else. As a matter of fact Amuneke should stop troubling Nigerian football with his I am more qualified rubbish and let us rest. NFF should stop toying with Nigerian football emotions and do what is right. World football has significantly evolved and we need an accomplished coach to help us. NFF by now should know how to source for fund. Oh I forgot some of those administrators are not experienced enough to hold their current positions.
