Taiwo Awoniyi has given his special prediction for tomorrow’s AFCON Group A clash between the Super Eagles and Equatorial Guinea – a 3-1 victory for Nigeria.
Nigeria open their 2023 AFCON campaign tomorrow afternoon (kick-off 3pm) against Nzlang National of Equatorial Guinea inside the 60,000-capacity Alassane Quatarra Stadium in Abidjan.
The Nottingham Forest striker missed out on the AFCON due to a groin injury that needed surgery, but he said he has total confidence the Super Eagles will win their opening game on their way to winning a fourth AFCON crown.
“This is the best time to win the tournament again, we have top talents who have a lot to offer,” Awoniyi said in a radio interview monitored by SCORENigeria
“We have the African Footballer of the Year (Victor Osimhen), he alone is a big plus for the country.
“If we play as a team, we don’t have any problems (goalkeeper, injury) and nothing can stop us.
“Nigerians should just support the team and there will be no stopping us.”
Awoniyi said he will be back playing again “very, very soon”.
