Coach Joseph Akpala has said he hopes his troubled Belgian club will deliver a New Year gift for the fans today at home against Gent.
KV Kortrijk are bottom of the standings in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League, but Akpala hopes his fifth match in charge will produce a more satisfying result today before the New Year.
Akpala was not a fan of Christmas football, but he said his team will be up to the challenge today.
“It’s our job. I think it’s more fun for the viewers than for the players and coaches. We will be there, Christmas football or not,” he said.
“Our fans deserve a nice end-of-year gift from KVK. We want to make them satisfied, even though we are not getting good results.”
Akpala was a striker in his playing days, but his strikers at KVK have struggled to find the back of the net.
“I try to give that extra in the hope of achieving good results. It will now be my fifth match as head coach, but I’m not thinking about that. It’s not about me, just about the team,” he said.
