The coach of Belgian club KAA Gent has admitted he is not looking forward to losing defender Jordan Torunarigha and four other African internationals for next month’s AFCON.
Hein Vanhaezebrouck said his playing squad will be affected by the departure of these players.
“If you almost always play with the same 17 players, you will run into problems if five or six of them leave,” he admitted.
“Getting through a month or more with 11 (players) seems very difficult. We hope that something can be added.”
Vanhaezebrouck further assured the club have planned against these absentees.
“I have been talking about this for six months and we have been working on it for a long time. We are prepared,” he said.
“We will try to get through that period as best as possible, but it is true that the flush will become thinner.”
Gent are third in the standings of the Belgian Jupiler Pro League with 35 points from 19 matches, nine points behind leaders Union St.Gilloise.
