Napoli may have finally issued an official statement on TikTok videos that mocked star striker Victor Osimhen, but most social media users said it fell short of an apology.
Napoli official TikTok account posted two videos that appear to look down on Osimhen and which they later deleted.
But Osimhen’s agent, Roberto Calenda, threatened to sue the Serie A champions and the player himself reacted by deleting Napoli-related stories on his Instagram.
Napoli have now said they never intended to offend Osimhen, who is “a treasure to this club” and that TikTok have tried to convey messages in a lighthearted style and not to insult.
The statement further said that as a proof how highly they hold the striker, they “during the summer break, the Club firmly rebuffed every offer that was received for the striker’s transfer abroad”.
However, replies to this statement were not impressed.
@FootballReprt simply said: “Actions speak louder than words, fire whoever made this! It’s not lighthearted, it’s an attack” accompanied by one of the offensive TikTok videos.
“This still isn’t an apology, they’re skirting around apologizing, it’s not that difficult!”
@YorubaBoyMedia said: “Apology rejected.
“Osimhen to Arsenal, here we go!”
“They never said sorry,” added @_TRANQUILLOO_
“Where’s his apology? Hisssss,” demanded popular Nigerian movie star Uche Jumbo.
