The striker saw red in the 44th minute, when VAR showed he hit his marker inside the box in an off-the-ball incident.
It was a straight red, his first in Belgium, and he will now miss at least three league matches as a result.
Despite his expulsion, Gent still beat visiting KAS Eupen 2-1 to go top of the table with 17 points from seven games.
The striker missed a UEFA Conference League group game in Poland against Zorya of Ukraine Thursday due to injury he suffered in Super Eagles training camp in Uyo.
