The Confederation of African Football (CAF) have approved the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba for home team Enyimba to play a CAF Champions League first round first leg match against Al Hilal of Sudan after the Nigeria champions were previously forced to play behind closed doors.
The match between Enyimba and Al Hilal will be played on September 15.
The approval was conveyed in a circular addressed to the general secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Mohammed Sanusi, and signed by the CAF deputy secretary.
According to the correspondence this is an “exceptional approval” as officials are yet to pay an inspection visit to the stadium.
Last month, two-time African champions Enyimba played a Champions League preliminary round tie against Rahimo FC of Burkina Faso behind closed doors after CAF ruled the Enyimba International Stadium fell short of standards.
“We’re delighted that we can now play in front of our great fans again,” said Enyimba goalkeeper Theophilus Afelokhai.
“They are the 12th man and they will lift us to the next round of the Champions League.”
The overall winners between Enyimba and Al Hilal will advance to the money-spinning group stage of the Champions League.
