Former Super Eagles captain Mutiu Adepoju has admitted he did not want the Eagles to battle rivals Ghana for a ticket to the World Cup in Qatar.
“I didn’t want us to be up against Ghana,” Adepoju today admitted in an interview on SuperSport programme Naija Made.
“This is because any game against Ghana is always tough.
“But with the draw we now just have to play against them.”
In head-to-head meetings between the two West African rivals, Ghana enjoy the superiority after they have won 25, drew 19 and lost 12 in 56 clashes.
Adepoju has therefore warned the Super Eagles not to take the Black Stars lightly because it will a new and more determined Ghana they will face for a place at Qatar 2022.
“We have to take the two games very seriously, we can’t afford to be complacent,” ‘Headmaster’ Adepoju cautioned.
“This will be a new Ghana, not the team we saw at the last AFCON in Cameroon.
“We have to be in Kumasi to win.”
