The Super Falcons remain on course to successfully defend their championship in Morocco later this year after they qualified for the WAFCON at the expense of Cote d’Ivoire today.
The Super Falcons sealed qualification when they pipped hosts Cote d’Ivoire 1-0 today in Abidjan to go through 3-0 on aggregate.
Esther Okoronkwo grabbed the match winner three minutes from time.
It was a sweet revenge for the Nigerian women after the Ivorians stopped them from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
France-based goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie kept the nine-time African champions on track to Morocco 2022 when she saved a first-half penalty.
In the absence of the injured Asisat Oshoala, the Falcons were led out by the experienced forward Francisca Ordega.
The home team took the game to the Nigerians, who did well to kept them at bay before they eventually dealt a killer blow to their hosts.
They thus joined hosts Morocco, Uganda and Zambia in the tournament proper, which will also determine the qualifiers for the next Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
