The Super Eagles have achieved the target of reaching the semifinal of the 2019 AFCON in Egypt, according to coach Gernot Rohr.
The three-time African champions reached their 15th AFCON semifinal in Cairo Wednesday night when they edged past South Africa 2-1.
“The target was the semifinal, but now we want to be in the final,” revealed Rohr after the thrilling contest against Bafana Bafana.
Nigeria now await the winners of today’s quarterfinal between Algeria and Cote d’Ivoire for Sunday’s AFCON semifinal.
However, Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has urged the team to go all the way and be African champions for a fourth time in Egypt.
“With a well-deserved victory over Bafana Bafana of South Africa, President Buhari believes, like millions of other sports-loving Nigerians, that the mission of having the trophy in our hands for the fourth time is almost accomplished for the high flying Eagles,” read a statement signed by presidential aide Femi Adesina.
