Late comer Tyronne Ebuehi has impressed in the handful of trainings with the Super Eagles so much so that he is contention for a starting XI spot ahead of Ola Aina for today’s AFCON battle against Egypt.
Ebuehi was a late replacement on the AFCON squad and was second to the last player to join up with the squad in Cameroon.
But he has done enough to be considered for the rightback position ahead of Torino star Ola Aina, who has so far looked a sure bet to start in that position.
Ebuehi was picked ahead of Ola Aina for the 2018 World Cup, but he has since been troubled by injuries.
Both players are great going forward, but Ebuehi has more composure and assured back in defence.
FC Porto defender Zaidu Sanusi has locked in the leftback spot and coach Augustine Eguavoen has thus far favoured a central defensive pairing of William Ekong and Kenneth Omeruo.
Ekong and Omeruo have the experience, but questions have lately been asked about Ekong being prone to major mistakes at Watford, while Omeruo has slowed down considerably from the player he was nine years ago at the AFCON in South Africa.
