The current Super Eagles lack the determination of the ‘Golden generation’ of 1994, according to new coach Austin Eguavoen.
Eguavoen was very much part of the ‘Golden Generation’ as he stood in for injured Stephen Keshi to captain Nigeria to win a second AFCON crown in 1994 before an impressive World Cup debut few months later in the USA.
“The determination of the ’94 team is lacking in the current team,” Eguavoen said when he was asked to compare both sets of teams.
‘Cerezo’ will also blame ill luck and an “offside” goal by Didier Drogba for Nigeria’s semifinal ouster by Cote d’Ivoire at the 2006 AFCON in Egypt.
Similar to the recent circumstances surrounding his latest appointment, Eguavoen was thrown into the deep-end for the 2006 AFCON after his boss ‘Chairman’ Christian Chukwu was sacked.
