Victor Osimhen could still feature for Super Eagles at next month’s AFCON after Napoli announced the striker will resume training next week.
“From next week, he will be back on the pitch and we will do some new tests,” announced Napoli doctor Raffaele Canonico.
Initial diagnosis was that he will sidelined by as many as three months after surgery for his facial fractures.
That would effectively rule him out of the AFCON, which begins January 9, 2022, in Cameroon.
Fellow Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo has also said Osimhen will be fit in time for the Nations Cup after he spoke to the Napoli star soon after his surgery.
He was the Eagles top scorer in the 2021 AFCON qualifiers with five goals.
He also scored four goals to qualify the team to the 2022 World Cup playoffs in March.
