Super Eagles will be gunning for victories against Liberia and Cape Verde next month so as to avoid any more upsets on the road to the 2022 World Cup, according to coach Gernot Rohr.
Nigeria top their World Cup qualifying group with nine points, two points clear of closest rivals Cape Verde.
They need just two points from their last two group games next month to advance to the playoffs in March 2022.
However, Rohr has insisted that he hopes to beat Liberia on November 11 in Morocco, before his team wrap up qualification to the next round four days later in Lagos so as not to leave anything to chance.
“We wish to win our group to reach the playoffs,” the Eagles told Elegbete TV.
“Two draws will give us the two points we need to qualify, but to avoid surprises that we have had already (1-0 loss to Central African Republic in Lagos last month).”
Rohr also maintained his team have a good chance to be African champions at the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon.
“At the AFCON, we want to win it,” he said.
“We have a chance to do that with our collective style of football.”
