Taiwo Awoniyi and Ike Ugbo have been linked with a possible transfer to Anderlecht in the summer.
A special report by Voetbal.be, picked Awoniyi and Ugbo among 10 strikers who could be heading to the Brussels giants, who are most likely to lose star striker Lukas Nmecha at the end of his loan deal from Manchester City.
“In just about every transfer window, Taiwo Awoniyi is linked to a return to the Jupiler Pro League,” reported the publication.
“In the summer of 2019, the ex-striker of Mouscron and AA Gent was close to a loan transfer to Club Brugge, where he was to be the successor of the departed Wesley Moraes. Then, however, the Nigerian opted for the German Bundesliga, where he initially did not find his way with Mainz.
“But this season things are going a lot better on loan at Union Berlin: Awoniyi scores an average of almost one goal every three games.
“In the next transfer period, the high-scoring striker again faces a difficult choice. At parent club Liverpool, where Awoniyi is under contract until 2023, he again has no prospect of playing minutes. That is why Awoniyi will probably be loaned to a European club for the eighth time.”
Voetbal.be also rated the chances very high of Ugbo to move to Anderlecht after he has already proved himself in the Belgian league with Cercle Brugge.
The Chelsea FC loanee has done very weel at Cercle Bruges this season,” the publication reported.
“Ike Ugbo is one of the most consistent and efficient strikers in the Jupiler Pro League this season. The Nigerian scores an average of 0.44 goal per 90 minutes and he converts one in four goal chances into goal: such a profile would therefore not look out of place at Anderlecht.
“Ugbo is on loan from Chelsea, but Cercle Bruges managed to negotiate a purchase option in the loan deal – a clause that will undoubtedly be lifted given Ugbo’s fine performance.
“But the player will of course also have a say about his future, and then the question remains where Ugbo’s sporting ambitions lie.”
