The New Year will most certainly be packed with a lot of thrilling competitions involving Nigerian teams and players.
The tournaments include –
FEBRUARY – 2024 CHAN
The CHAN Eagles return to the tournament proper after a six-year absence. They reached the final in 2018 and finished third in 2014. Can they now go all the way in East Africa next month?
MARCH – 2026 World Cup Qualifiers resume
The Super Eagles have a mountain to climb as they resume the quest to qualify for the expanded 2026 FIFA World Cup to be hosted by the USA, Canada and Mexico. They are second bottom of their qualifying group, but they will give the remaining six qualifiers a real go beginning with a trip to group leaders Rwanda followed by a home game vs bottom team Zimbabwe.
APRIL – 2025 U20 AFCON
The Flying Eagles showed class by qualifying from WAFU B to the U20 AFCON to be hosted by Cote d’Ivoire. The future Super Eagles will hope to reach at least the semifinals of this tournament to advance to the 2025 U20 FIFA World Cup in Chile in October.
JULY – 2024 WAFCON
Nine-time champions the Super Falcons will aim to reclaim the continental they lost three years ago in Morocco. They have the quality to do just that.
DECEMBER – 2025 AFCON
Morocco 2025 offers Nigeria another chance to win a fourth AFCON title after they fell short last year in the championship game against host nation Cote d’Ivoire.
In between all these months, Nigeria footballers, men and women, will be flying the country’s flag in their various foreign leagues.
It promises to be another exciting journey around the football world in this calendar year and it will be even more exciting should the results favour Nigeria.
