CHAN Eagles tonight crashed out of this year’s WAFU Nations Cup in Senegal after they lost 3-2 on penalties to Cape Verde in a losers’ quarterfinal after fulltime scores stood at 1-1.
The team led by coach Imama Amapakabo had earlier lost out on the main tournament after they fell 2-1 to Togo.
Enyimba goalkeeper Theophilus Afelokhai saved a penalty in the shootout after he replaced Abubakar Adamu.
Reuben Bala, John Lazarus, Sikiru Alimi and Dare Olatunji missed Nigeria’s penalties.
The team will now return to country to prepare for a decisive CHAN final playoff against nemesis Togo, who won the first leg in Lome 4-1.
The overall winners will advance to the 2020 CHAN in Cameroon in June.
