Former Super Eagles World Cup star Taribo West has confessed that a moment of madness at Inter Milan cost him a transfer to the Premier League with Arsenal and Manchester United.
The hard-tackling central defender was replaced by Inter against Vicenza in February 1999 and in frustration he threw down his jersey as he walked off the bench.
He said in a radio interview monitored by SCORENigeria that loss of control will later cost him a transfer to either Arsenal or Manchester.
He said he flew to England several times to meet with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger in respect of a transfer, but at the end of each meeting the Arsenal boss will remind of that incident in the Serie A game against Vicenza.
He also revealed that Alex Ferguson was also interested in signing him but again his character was questioned because of that jersey-throwing incident.
“Your character can close your door,” he warned.
Taribo, now a pastor, also commented on the incident involving Victor Osimhen and coach Finidi George.
“He should calm his head down,” advised the ex-Super Eagles star.
“There is life after football.”
Osimhen acknowledged your mistake please for your own good. This little mistake can create a big vacuum in heart forever. Don’t be be carried away by the wealth you’ve acquired today. Finidi is an elderly man. Whether he said it or not just let it go and live in hands of God. I am your number one fans in rivers state port harcourt Nigeria.
