The Super Falcons will Sunday fly out of Nigeria to Australia to step up their preparations for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The NFF announced the nine-time African champions will depart Nigeria for a 15-day training camp in Australia, before the tournament proper with their base at Brisbane – which is also venue for two of their group matches.
Nigeria’s opening match at the World Cup is against Olympic champions Canada, at Melbourne’s Rectangular Stadium, on July 21, before matches against co-hosts Australia and Republic of Ireland on July 27 and July 31 respectively at the Lang Park in Brisbane.
Nigerian First Lady Oluremi Tinubu will attend a dinner to send off the Falcons Saturday in Abuja.
This year’s World Cup will be hosted by Australia and New Zealand between July 20 and August 20.
Australia and New Zealand 2023 will be the biggest-ever FIFA Women’s World Cup as it will feature 32 teams.
It is also the first to be hosted by two countries, and is the first-ever FIFA senior competition to be hosted by two countries in two different confederations – Australia is in the Asian confederation, while New Zealand is in Oceania.
