Coach Gernot Rohr will today against Liberia stick with the 3-5-2 formation, which served him very well against Central African Republic last month in Cameroon.
This means Chidozie Awaziem, who was outstanding in Cameroon, has retained his place in a three-man defence, while Moses Simon and Jamilu Collins will again play as wing backs.
Otherwise, there are no surprises in the starting XI as Wilfred Ndidi, Alex Iwobi and Joe Aribo all return.
As expected returnee Odion Ighalo will start from the bench.
Kick-off is 5pm in Nigeria.
Super Eagles Starting XI vs Liberia (3-5-2)
Maduka Okoye – Chidozie Awaziem, Leon Balogun, William Ekong (Captain) – Moses Simon, Joe Aribo, Wilfred Ndidi, Alex Iwobi, Jamilu Collins – Kelechi Iheanacho, Victor Osimhen
Today’s game against Liberia, showed that Osimhen is not a prolific goal scorer just yet. He missed two clear chances that any experienced number 9 would have scored. In fact, Cyriel Dessers needs to get a look at, to help make the SE, a solid goal scoring team. Obviously, Osimhen needs to understudy Ighalo and Cyriel Dessers to make him a goal scoring machine.
