The Super Eagles have to on Sunday stop Tunisia, who are a fast and technical team, to reach the AFCON quarterfinal, according to coach Augustine Eguavoen.
The Eagles finished top of Group D having won all three group games, while Tunisia barely reached the Round of 16 from Group F as one of the third best losers.
“Tunisia are a good team, very fast, very good technically, they’re fast as well, a typical North African team, so we have to counter them,” Eguavoen remarked.
“They have had their ups and downs – first game (vs Mali) was dramatic, lost two penalties in open play and lost narrowly to Gambia towards the end of the game.
“But the knockout stage is a different ball game, if you don’t get it, you’re off!”
Eguavoen assured his team will continue to work with the same determination that has now installed the Super Eagles as one of the contenders to win the AFCON.
“We will continue to work hard as we have always done, the same approach, the same determination,” he vowed.
“Tactics might differ a little bit.
“We’re ready.”
In 2020, both the Super Eagles and the Carthage Eagles played out a goalless draw in a friendly.
That was a year after the Super Eagles beat Tunisia 1-0 to clinch third place at the 2019 AFCON in Egypt.
