The Super Eagles ought to axe goalkeeper Francis Uzoho because he now does not have self-belief caused by lack of public confidence, according to former NFF technical committee chairman Chris Green.
“We should drop him for a year, so that he could take a breather and come back energised,” Green said in a radio interview monitored by SCORENigeria
“Uzoho is not a bad goalkeeper, but he has to sort his problems, which are psychological.
“Nigerians don’t trust him as could be seen from the outcry after his inclusion on the AFCON squad.”
Former NFF board member Green picked Amas Obasogie of Bendel Insurance as the best goalkeeper in the NPFL and should have been on the plane to the AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire.
He said the team need a good goalkeeper trainer, while also picking holes in the selection of “predominantly defensive” midfielders for the tournament.
Nigeria should help him to solve his (Uzoho) psychological problems. Don’t leave it to him alone because we have alternatives who are also not sure.
Your views are not in order. Uzoho is a good goalkeeper. Dropping him will not help matters. Allow him to gain more confidence by using him. That your Bendel Insurance goalkeeper is childish. He concedes cheap goals as he lacks the necessary exposure for a tournament of this nature. Nigeria can afford to take amateurs to top competitions like this. AFCON is not for jeejeecees please.
How would you say such a thing?
So super eagle’s camp is a rehabilitation center for mental deranged players?
Vincent Enyeama was still at Enyimba when he went to 2002 World Cup in Korea – Japan. However, he won the CAF Champions League twice with Enyimba International of Aba, before that WC in Asia. Ike Shorunmu was 1st choice and rightly so, but when we crashed out of that WC after our woeful performance in the first two game, Vincent stepped up against England in the last group game and kept a clean sheet (0-0). The rest as they would say is history. Uzoho has been around with the Super Eagles team, even the last time we featured in the world cup in 2018, this is 2024. He has been tried, but the consistency to hold that important position is lacking.
