There are now strong possibilities that the Super Eagles could face Algeria, Senegal or Tunisia in the Round of 16 of the AFCON in Cameroon.
The Eagles with six points from their first two matches have already won the group notwithstanding Wednesday’s results.
This is because they enjoy a better head-to-head record against Egypt, who are expected to win the other qualification ticket from this first round group.
But as a result of some shock results involving the top teams thus far, the AFCON Round of 16 could now see Nigeria square up against tournament favourites Algeria or Senegal.
Little Equatorial Guinea shocked defending champions Algeria Sunday night, while Senegal were held to a draw by Sierra Leone.
Nigeria will now face the best losers from Group B, E, or F.
Algeria are in Group B, Senegal are in Group E and Tunisia are in Group F.
Algeria eliminated Nigeria in the semifinal of the 2019 AFCON in Egypt and also pipped the Eagles 1-0 in a friendly in October 2020, while Senegal are the best ranked African team on the FIFA Ranking.
It will therefore not be an easy passage to the quarterfinal for three-time champions Nigeria on Sunday in Garoua.
What a flimxy escuse! Rohr had a bunch of the current Super Eagles players for 5 years and did not know what to do with them. Under him Super Eagles played like pregnant women, bringing heartaches to Nigerian fans. The same players under Eguavon are being turned into a fast- paced attacking machine!
