Sports Minister John Owan Enoh has questioned the fire and hunger of Super Eagles stars, who were not born in Nigeria.
“We have in the Super Eagles about 90% of players not born in Nigeria. Do they have the spirit, the fire of a Nigerian player born in Nigeria?,” the Sports Minister asked in an interview with Eagle7 FM.
“There are some players in the team who are not good enough for the Super Eagles.
“We talk of the quality of the coach, but what of the quality of the players in the team?”
The Sports Minister admitted that like most Nigerians he was surprised when the Super Eagles went all the way to the final of the 2023 AFCON.
“Like many Nigerians, I didn’t have much confidence (in the Super Eagles) before the AFCON,” he said.
“But the god of soccer wanted us to win but we bungled it in the final.
“It was a performance that got us to forget the quality of the team.”
See the way a countries sports Minister is talking, didn’t he hear when troost Ekong was telling the whole world he was for the just concluded world cup matches, ask me, I will tell you we don’t have committed officials to run our sports, you all are just politicians, looking for who to blame for your inefficiency
Now I understand this sports minister is completely clueless. So, what passion has the one born in Nigeria shown in recent times? You are owing players and coaches ridiculous backlogs of bonuses and salaries and you want them to give you fire while playing. The Super Falcons who have been very impressive don’t we have many foreign born players amon them. This man is further tearing the team apart with this unguarded statements. Why are our leaders this incompetent, irresponsible and crude?
It is as if Nigeria is cursed with this useless rants from incompetent John Enoh. Why are we getting it wrong in everything in Nigeria? This shameless Minister wanted to create discord in SE so as to put absolute halt to World Cup qualification in order to shift the blame on players. This can’t work at all.
If Nigeria fails to qualify NFF and John Enoh are to be blamed.
If this statement is true and it’s coming from the Honourable Minister of Sports, I would just like Victor Osimhen said about the statement that was credited to the former super Eagles coach George Finidi ” my respect for him is lost”. How can the sports minister of a country make a statement that is capable of tearing Nigerian sports men and women apart more especially few months to an Olympic,so so sad.
Things will continue falling apart until Nigerians 🇳🇬 leaders get since, could you imagine a statement from a whole minister what a mess 😳 I’m lacking a word to express the kind of incompetent in these honorable minister! so help me God.
