SCORENigeria can specially report that Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has landed in Nigeria’s training camp in Ismailia, Egypt, to assist coach Imama Amapakabo in the U23 AFCON.
Rohr arrived in Egypt Saturday and officials informed SCORENigeria he will be with the team for a week before he heads back to Nigeria to begin his own preparations for 2021 AFCON qualifiers against Benin and Lesotho, also this month.
“Rohr will return to Nigeria on November 10, but before then he will work hand-in-hand with his assistant Imama to ensure the team are battle ready,” an official told SCORENigeria
Rohr led Nigeria to the semis of the 2019 AFCON in Egypt in July.
The U23s will begin their campaign on Saturday afternoon against Cote d’Ivoire.
The defending U23 AFCON champions will also battle South Africa and Zambia in Group B.
The competition also serves as qualifier for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
