Benin coach Gernot Rohr has announced that injury has ruled out star defender Mohamed Tijani from today’s 2025 AFCON qualifier against the Super Eagles, while Steve Mounie expressed confidence of his team’s chances.
Switzerland-based central defender Tijani played a big role when Benin shocked the Super Eagles in Abidjan in June.
Rohr told a pre-match press conference in Uyo that the injured player has not been replaced.
In the meantime, Benin skipper Steve Mounie, who fired the winning goal against Nigeria in June, said team spirit is high and the target is to get a result in Nigeria.
“With the spirit we have in the team now, we don’t give up. We will try to fight together on the pitch, and that will be important,” declared the Augsburg of Germany striker.
“It doesn’t matter who scores or makes the assist, the most important thing is to get a result.”
