Against most expectations, Goal King Paul Onuachu did not make the big transfer to a major league club, but the consequence is that he will be rewarded with a new and improved contract.
Onuachu netted 35 goals in all competitions last season and it was rightly believed he will make the big move, but he did not as the summer transfer window closed midnight Tuesday.
The loan transfer of fellow Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers to Dutch giants Feyenoord on deadline day gave the biggest hint Onuachu will not move at least in this window.
However, voetbalniuews.be has today reported that the big striker will be among several Genk players who will be handed new contracts.
The 27-year-old centre-forward still has three years left on his contract after he joined from Danish club FC Midtjylland two years ago for six Million Euros.
Experts have predicted Genk will be genuine title contenders this season should they keep Onuachu.
Last season, they just fell short to champions Club Brugge, but won the Belgium Cup.
