Newly promoted Remo Stars today stayed top of the NPFL even after they were held to a scoreless draw at home by Nasarawa United, just as Akwa United and Rivers United won to pile pressure on the leaders.
Last season’s champions Akwa United stopped Gombe United 1-0 and Rivers United stunned Enyimba also by the odd goal in Aba.
Rivers United match winner was left winger Ishaq Kayode for his fourth goal of the new season.
All three teams have seven points after three rounds of matches with Remo Stars ahead on a better goals difference.
In Makurdi, Lobi Stars fought from a goal down to beat Shooting Stars 2-1, MFM FC turned back former coach Fidelis Ilechukwu and his team Plateau United 1-0, while Kwara United and Heartland both won at home.
