The NFF have dismissed reports that they have renewed the contract of Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro.
Peseiro’s one-year contract will run out at the end of this month.
A section of the local media reported this week that Peseiro has been given another short-term contract to lead the Super Eagles to the 2023 AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire, which will be staged in January 2024.
“I am not aware that Peseiro’s contract has been renewed,” the NFF communications director Ademola Olajire told The Guardian.
“Such information will be released by the NFF when it happens.”
The football federation announced that the fans will decide the future of the 63-year-old Portuguese coach, who earlier this month qualified the country to the 2023 AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire.
Peseiro has won four and lost five matches since he took charge of the country’s team in May 2022.
The public has been unimpressed and most fans have demanded the contract, which pays Peseiro $70,000 a month, should not be extended.
Former internationals Emmanuel Amuneke and Finidi George are front runners to take over the team in the event Peseiro is sacked.
Peseiro contract should not be renewed nff should listen to the voice of the people , he has performed badly despite our qualification for Afcon next year. He lacks the technical ability to spearhead the affairs of the team . We have to struggle to play good football despite the array of stars we have. Let’s bring in Amuneke he will do well bc he knows the players already.
