Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick has showered praise on Chuba Akpom following his second-half hat-trick that put down Wigan Athletic 4-1.
Akpom has now scored nine goals in the league and 12 in all competitions.
“I’m delighted for him. He’s on a right purple patch at the minute and long may it continue,โ Carrick said.
โWe spoke at half-time about the key positions in the game and trying to work more space, especially Duncan and Chuba, We felt we could cause them more problems than we did in the first half, and the boys did well, especially in possession.โ
Akpom scored in the 49th minute to make it 2-0. He scored on 59 minutes to make it 3-0 and completed his hat-trick in the 90th minute to make it 4-1.
The 27-year-old striker has played for PAOK Thessaloniki(Greece), St.Truiden (Belgium), Arsenal, Hull City, Nottingham Forest, Coventry City and Brentford.
He has played for England at U16, U17, U17, U20 and U21 levels, but he has said he now wishes to play for the Super Eagles.
