Former Super Eagles coach Samson Siasia has got a huge reprieve after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) reduced a life ban to five years for alleged match-fixing.
CAS declared that a life ban imposed by FIFA was “disproportionate for a first offence, which did not have a negative or immediate effect on the players in football“ .
Siasia, 52, had been found guilty by the FIFA ethics committee of having “accepted money in connection with the manipulation of matches” .
The former international striker, who featured at the 1994 World Cup in the United States, was also fined 50,000 Swiss francs (or about 46,000 Euros), and that was also lifted by CAS.
