Both Paul Onuachu and Genk are open for the striker to return to the Belgian club, but the major stumbling block is the “very high” asking price of relegated Southampton for the player.
Southampton forked out 18 Million Euros to sign Onuachu in January, but the giant striker failed to score a goal as ‘The Saints’ were relegated from the Premier League last season.
The English club will want to recoup a substantial part of this investment now amid interest from German clubs for the 29-year-old striker.
Fellow Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare was the direct replacement for Onuachu and he has weighed in with a number of goals thus far.
They have also splashed more than five Million Euros on a new striker Bonsu Baah.
Coach Wouter Vrancken told HLN Genk have reached their budget for a new striker and cannot do more.
But the Belgian league runners-up of last season still desperately need a more prolific goal scorer as they hope to feature in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League.
