The Flying Eagles will Tuesday battle for a place at next year’s U20 AFCON in Egypt when they play in the semifinals of the WAFU B qualifying series in Niamey, Niger Republic.
The Nigerian boys are currently top of Group B with four points from two matches.
Today’s final Group B clash between defending champions Ghana and Burkina Faso will determine the final placements in that section.
Burkina Faso are second in the standings with a point after a 2-2 draw with Nigeria, while Ghana are bottom of the three-team group after they lost their first game.
As it now stands, the Flying Eagles look set to battle Cote d’Ivoire, who finished second in Group B, in the second semifinal of the qualifying tournament by 8pm.
However, should Burkina Faso inflict a bigger win than the 2-0 Nigeria handed arch-rivals Ghana in the opening group game, the Flying Eagles will have to face surprise Group A winners Togo in the first semifinal.
Hosts Niger and Benin Republic have already been eliminated and Ghana must win today to stay alive in the tournament.
The two finalists of this competition will advance to the tournament proper in February 2023.
