Despite a shock elimination in the AFCON Round of 16, the Super Eagles are still in the Top-5 in Africa on the FIFA Rankings while next month’s 2022 World Cup rivals Ghana have crashed out of the Top-10.
The Super Eagles remain the third best team in Africa even though they were knocked out in the Round of 16 by Tunisia.
However, the scandalous exit of the Black Stars of Ghana in the group stage of the AFCON in Cameroon has cost them dearly as they have now slid to 11th in Africa.
Between March 23 and 29, both Nigeria and Ghana will slug it out for a spot at this year’s World Cup in Qatar.
The overall winners of this West African derby will advance along with four other African teams to Qatar in November.
The FIFA Rankings will be employed for the April 1 draw for the 2022 World Cup.
