‘The Working One’ Fidelis Ilechukwu has said he expects newly crowned NPFL champions Enugu Rangers to be rewarded by the Enugu State Governor.
‘The Flying Antelopes’ landed their eighth NPFL title Sunday after they beat Bendel Insurance 2-0 to record an unassailable 67 points with a round of matches to the end of the season.
“The Governor (Peter Mbah)challenged us to win the league and he will reward us,” Ilechukwu said.
“Now we’re going to be rich.”
Rangers were rewarded with plots of land and cash when they last won the championship in 2016.
It was third time lucky for Ilechukwu after he previously finished as runners-up with MFM FC and Plateau United.
“The team, the fans are more than happy,” celebrated the coach.
“This was a team who only last season escaped relegation on the final day of the season and today, we’re champions.
“The only thing missing was that we did not lift the trophy in front of our fans.”
Rangers won 20, drew seven and lost 10 games thus far this season.
“It was difficult at the beginning of the season, we had problems in defence and we were not scoring goals,” the coach reviewed.
“The medical team did well to get back some of our key players and at a time we went almost 10 games unbeaten.
“The welfare of the team is top-notch and today no one is owed a match bonus.”
