Golden Eaglets could still be handed a lifeline to next year’s U17 AFCON even after they failed to qualify for the WAFU B qualifying tournament in Ghana.
Two years ago, only the two finalists qualified for the U17 AFCON, but with the expansion of the FIFA U17 World Cup more African teams are guaranteed spots in the tournament.
However, as first reported by SCORENigeria CAF have yet to make a pronouncement as to how many teams from the sub-regional WAFU B qualifying tournament will now make it to the U17 AFCON.
Golden Eaglets will Tuesday take on hosts Ghana in a third-placed final and spokesman Francis Achi hinted that winners of this classification game could also march on to the U17 AFCON.
“It is likely that three teams will qualify from WAFU Zone B for the U17 AFCON,” he posted on X.
“There is still all to play for in the third-place game against Ghana.”
