Cyriel Dessers has admitted his club Genk endured a very difficult time at Anderlecht, who ended a seven-game winning run by the Belgian league leaders.
Against the form books, Anderlecht stopped high-flying Genk 1-0 Friday night.
Belgian Jupiler Pro League leading scorer Paul Onuachu started for Genk, so too Paul Mukairu for Anderlecht.
“We had a very difficult evening”, admitted Dessers, who saw 20 minutes of action on the day.
“Anderlecht are the first team to cause us so many problems on a tactical level. Their pressing was really good, especially in the first half.
“I think they watched a lot of our videos. At the end of the match we tried to push a bit more, but they remained very solid. And smarter too.”
The loss at Anderlecht has thus ended Genk record of seven straight wins, which began in mid-September.
“Every run has an end. This must be a new beginning for us,” Dessers reasoned.
“This team have many qualities. We have already proved that many times, so that cannot have suddenly disappeared.”
