Rangers coach Philippe Clement has come to the defence of striker Cyriel Dessers, who has been knocked for throwing away clear chances.
The Super Eagles striker himself has said he has not got the recognition he deserves.
His coach has now risen to his defence.
“If you compare him to seven months ago, he does much more for the team. He is growing and that is what we want,” saluted Clement.
“Maybe people have a certain perception of him, but I know that no defender likes to play against him.”
Dessers salvaged a result for Rangers in a UEFA Champions League third round playoff at Dynamo Kiev.
“He had a few chances, which he finished well but the goalkeeper was able to save,” remarked Clement.
“He kept believing though and I’m happy for him that he was able to score.”
Dessers snatched a stoppage time equaliser against Dynamo Kiev.
“I don’t have to answer to people. I just do my job for the team, the coach and myself. That’s all that matters,” he insisted.
“As a striker you always have to believe, even if it seems like an impossible ball. I knew it would be the last ball in the box.”
