Chuba Akpom could well be playing in the UEFA Champions League this season as his representatives are in talks with Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart.
According to leading newspaper Bild, Akpom’s camp has held a number of talks with Stuttgart in respect of a transfer of the Ajax striker.
Bild reported that Akpom as well as Chelsea striker Armando Broja are being considered by Stuttgart who lost Guinea international striker Serhou Guirassy to Borussia Dortmund earlier this transfer window.
Ajax will be open to selling Akpom for the right amount.
They have been trying to get Wout Weghorst to Amsterdam for a while now, but the international striker can only come if Akpom or Brian Brobbey leave.
This also has to do with Ajax’s salary budget, which needs to be reduced. A departure of a big earner like Akpom can certainly help with that.
Stuttgart have brought Deniz Undav from Brighton and Hove Albion to the club earlier this summer, but a striker is yet to come.
Stuttgart surprisingly finished second in the Bundesliga last season, which means a ticket for the Champions League is in the bag for this season.
