Former chairman of the NFF technical committee Chris Green has leapt to the defence of embattled Super Eagles coach Finidi George after claiming the coach did not enjoy the support of his employers.
The NFF have opted to appoint a new foreign coach for the Super Eagles before the 2025 AFCON qualifiers in September.
This was after the team under Finidi drew 1-1 with South Africa before losing to 2-1 to Benin to leave Nigeria’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup in shambles.
“How would you have expected Finidi to do magic?” asked Green rhetorically.
“So, if an expatriate coach comes now and does not win two matches, do you sack him?
“Has anyone asked what support did the NFF give him?”
The Rivers FA chairman put the blame squarely on the NFF for not appointing a foreign coach immediately after the AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire after it was clear that Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro will not remain as coach.
