A CAF official, Joseph Kabungo, assigned to the 2022 World Cup playoffs second leg between Nigeria and Ghana has died during the riot at the match venue, the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
An official confirmation is being awaited.
The Zambian was a doping officer and was reportedly a victim of the stampede caused by the riot.
Kabungo was Zambia team doctor when they won the 2012 AFCON.
He has been on the CAF medical team since 2013 and was recently re-appointed for the period of 2021-2023.
On Tuesday, Ghana qualified for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar at the expense of home team Nigeria.
Both teams played out a goalless draw last week, before they played 1-1 in Abuja to go through on the away goals rule.
