Former international Emmanuel Babayaro has leapt to the defence of Daniel Amokachi for rejecting “demeaning” terms to serve as Super Eagles assistant coach.
According to Babayaro, Amokachi rejected the post after he was recently presented by the NFF with the job conditions, which included no salary and his involvement with the team will be based on the discretion of the head coach.
“Amokachi was appointed Super Eagles assistant coach under these conditions –
No salary and his appearance in any Super Eagles engagement is on needs basis and subject to the head coach’s discretions,” claimed Babayaro.
“How demeaning can these conditions be?
“Amokachi said yes to the appointment as the Super Eagles assistant coach but an emphatic no to the demeaning conditions attached thereto.
“And yes, the conditions were only just communicated recently.”
Babayaro was critical of comments surrounding the situation Amokachi with the Super Eagles because they lacked the facts.
Every body tread carefully. This is Amokachi we are chatting about, not a football nobody.
Between the NFF, Daniel Amokachi and Finidi George, this issue should be handled with tact and diplomacy. It is capable of a turning into a boomerang that could impact Nigerian football negatively.
Is this how we will treat our own? Will NFF dare offer such a demeaning deal to a foreign coach? Truly, A PROPHET IS WITHOUT HONOUR IN HIS HOME, AND AMONG HIS PEOPLE.
If truly NFF offered such disrespectful conditions to Amokachi, then it means they don’t want him there in the first place. So why bother?
