Former internationals Emmanuel Amuneke and Finidi George are the front runners to replace Jose Peseiro as Super Eagles coach.
The contract of 63-year-old Peseiro will be up on June 30.
Cash-strapped NFF have asked the Portuguese to take a huge cut from his $70,000 monthly salary for his contract to be extended.
Former Barcelona winger Amuneke has headed the Golden Eaglets and Flying Eagles and was assistant to Austin Eguavoen when Nigeria failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
He has worked as a coach in Zambia, Sudan, Egypt and Tanzania.
Finidi is currently working under Peseiro as one of his assistants.
He improved his coaching profile when he led Enyimba to win a record ninth Nigeria Premier League title this month.
Both Amuneke and Finidi are from the Golden Age of the Super Eagles when they won both 1994 AFCON and the 1996 Olympics as well as reached the second round of the 1994 World Cup.
