Randy Waldrum has said he was proud to get off to a good start as coach of the Super Falcons courtesy of a 1-0 win over CSKA Moscow today.
“Personally to get a win as coach of Nigeria, I’m pleased, excited and proud of the players,” Waldrum said.
“I’m pretty pleased overall considering the fact that the team have not been together for over a year and with my first training with them I was pleased to get the result.
“The game was a hard one, but we can take positives from it and also we have some areas we need to improve upon.
“In the first half, we were much better in terms of ball possession and movement, but in the second half, we were kind of lost a little bit, we committed fouls, but I think that after some time it’s something we will work and improve upon.
“It’s a good start.”
He further said debutant Toni Payne of Sevilla was “great” even though she was played in the midfield and not in her familiar striking position.
The Super Falcons will face group leaders Uzbekistan Saturday in continuation of the Turkish Women’s Cup.
