Africa Day is marked on 25 May. The date goes back to 1963, when African states founded the Organization of African Unity, which later became the African Union. Today, the day is an opportunity to speak about identity, culture, sport and community through African voices.
For 1xBet Nigeria, Africa Day is also connected with the brand’s work in one of the continent’s most dynamic markets. Nigeria has its own rhythm, languages, sports culture, music scene and strong sense of local pride. That is why the brand’s communication in Nigeria should feel close to people’s real experience.
Culture that starts locally
African culture travels widely through music, sport, fashion, film, comedy and digital creators. Still, the strongest cultural references usually begin in specific communities.
A football celebration may start on a local pitch. A song may carry the sound of Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt or another city before reaching listeners abroad. A phrase, outfit, meal or dance can speak directly to people who recognise where it comes from.
For 1xBet Nigeria, this matters. Working in Nigeria means paying attention to local sports culture, fan behaviour, creators, community moments and everyday conversations.
“Africa is a continent of many voices, strong communities and deep sports passion. Nigeria is an important part of that story, with powerful cultural energy and loyal football fans. For 1xBet, being present in Nigeria means listening to local audiences, respecting their identity and supporting the culture around sport in a relevant way,” said a 1xBet representative.
Africa Through My Eyes: 1xBet contest for Africa Day
To mark Africa Day, 1xBet has launched the Africa Through My Eyes contest on X.
The idea is: participants are invited to express their thoughts and emotions about their home continent by completing the phrase: “For me, Africa = …”
To join the contest, users need to leave their version of the phrase in the comments under the campaign post and tag a friend. The contest runs from 25 to 31 May.
Selected voices will receive Africa Celebration Boxes, which include T-shirts dedicated to Africa Day. The winners will be announced on 4 June.
This format gives people a direct way to speak about Africa in their own words. It also fits the main idea of the campaign: Africa is not one fixed image. It is shaped by many voices, memories and experiences.
1xCup: supporting football where talent begins
Football is a major part of Nigeria’s local culture. For many young players, it can also become a path forward, but talent needs visibility, structure and real competition.
That is the idea behind 1xCup, supported by 1xBet. With the slogan “Your community, your cup”, the tournament connects street-level talent with professional scouting opportunities and gives young players a structured platform to be noticed.
With a total prize fund of ₦20,000,000, including ₦10,000,000 for the winner, 1xCup shows how 1xBet Nigeria supports community football, local talent and real sporting opportunity.
Why Africa Day matters
Africa Day gives different voices one shared moment. Its meaning is not to make every country sound the same. It recognises that local stories, languages, cultures and sports traditions all have their place.
For 1xBet Nigeria, this day is a reminder that real connection begins with local understanding. The brand’s role is to be present in conversations that matter to people: sport, community, celebration and shared experience.
One Africa. Many Stories. is a simple message, but it fits the day well. Africa is shaped every day by the people who live it, speak it, celebrate it and carry it forward.
Join the Africa Through My Eyes contest on 1xBet X from 25 to 31 May: complete the phrase “For me, Africa = …”, tag a friend in the comments and share what Africa means to you.
